If you have a dog and you had to leave town for about a month on a business trip and couldn't bring your dog what would you truthfully do? Would you call a pet-sitting business?
How can I get customers?
I have in the past. However, I prefer the pet-sitter to come to my home and feed my dog, take her for a walk, etc..
You really need to network. Talk to the people you know that have pets, offer the service. Talk to your vet — they probably get a lot of requests. Once you've been able to do this service for a few people, let them know you're always looking for new customers. If they are satisfied with your performance, they will recommend you to friends.
I want to start a dog walking business for summer but how do i advertise it around my local area? also what do people exspect from a dog walker, i mean apart from walking their dog!
My daughter started by leaving cards at the Vets, in Supermarket's notice boards, newsagents, shop windows and the local pub!
She moved on to the local newspaper and then into Yellow Pages.
She started from the dog walking to feeding them when owners asked her (£5 a visit), which went on to feeding cats and doing litter trays if owners were away.
Then she began taking in small caged animals into her own home (budgies and bunnies, etc)
She eventually had a web site – with letters of recommendation from satisfied clients.
Took other pet carers onto her books – they were self-employed at £5 per hour but she received a booking fee.
Then she emigrated and sold the business for a 4-figure sum!
Best of luck in your venture – watch out Richard Branson!!
I am looking into a career with dogs and I’ve visited a dog sledding tour guide service in Albert Canada and now I’m hooked and want to get a career linked with dog sledding. There isn’t really much info as a career on this type of job but I’m guessing training with a tour guide service would benefit for whatever job I wanted to pick as a dog musher or a trainer for dog sledding. Is there a college course or courses that someone would take to go into these careers or is it mostly apprenticeship?
For any business you want to open classes in business management apply. You should spend a year or two apprenticing under a musher… or maybe a year each for 3 mushers in different geographical areas. This is a year around 24/7 type job. Seeing how it works and how much work it is and THEN deciding if its something you cannot live happily without doing is key.
New York City is the fashion mecca for designers, but not just for humans, now it’s gone to the dogs. It’s a catwalk of a different sort for these fashionista dogs. It’s a huge display of pet fashions and it’s one sure way to be the cat’s meow without being feline. The fashions are the ultimate in canine couture where they feature everything from the Park Avenue Pooch to the junkyard dog. And, bling they have. Many top designers are getting into the business. Why shouldn’t they as the dog business is barking up the right tree as a 36 billion dollar industry.. making it top dog over the toy and candy business. What’s in – “mommy and me” collections – where humans are dressing in matching attire with their dogs. Sheryl, the DogSexpert also talks with designers about how their fashions influence relationships between humans and pooch. See it on Leashes and Lovers TV. www.LeashesandLovers.com/TV
